Coffee: the good and the bad

I drink coffee every single day. Without it, I would not be able to fully wake up. I’ve heard that coffee can be good for you in moderate amounts, but I’ve also heard that it just altogether unhealthy. I’ve done a little research to get to the bottom of it and here is what I have found.

Pros:

1. Coffee can improve alertness in individuals, creating a better performance at work.

 

2. Studies show that combined with naps, coffee can help with jetlag.

 

3. Tastes good. No further explanation needed.

 

 

Cons:

1. Sleep obviously varies from person-to-person, but an average adult needs 7-9 hours each night. Even caffeinated coffee drank in the morning can affect sleep cycles.

 

2. In males, coffee has been linked to melanoma.

3. For most, especially at higher levels of consumption, coffee increases anxiety.

 

For me, I would have to say that the pros outweigh the cons with coffee. And, I just don’t know how I would function without it. So, I’m sticking to my usual cup(s) a day routine.
