Will an Apple a Day Really Keep the Doctor Away?

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” This is a saying that is extremely common in English. I’ sure everyone has heard it, and said it, at least a hundred times. So, is it true? Let’s find out…

First of all: what nutritional values do apples have?

Apples have unique properties compared to other fruits and vegetables. They are high in vitamin C to improve your immune system, they are low in calories but still taste sweet, and contain so many more nutrients and benefits that other foods can’t provide.

Next: how can apples keep you healthy?

Well, they are rich in flavonoids which allow them to help lower the risk of cancers and cardiovascular diseases. As said before, apples contain high amounts of vitamin C, vitamin E, and antioxidants. Vitamin C is vital in improving and maintaining your immune system. A better immune system means a better chance your body will fight off illness, and a better chance you will stay healthy.

Finally: The Verdict

So, will an apple a day really keep the doctor away?

While I was looking up information on this question, I found many conflicting opinions. After looking at a bunch of different articles, videos, etc., I have come up with a personal opinion based on my own knowledge of nutrition and all of this new information that I learned.

I think that apples definitely have health benefits that other foods can’t provide, but, much of these benefits come from the skin of the fruit and the benefits are only really noticeable in high quantities. Many researchers found that eating apples definitely increases vitamin C in the body which slightly decreased doctors visits.

So my answer is: that apples are good for you and if you eat a lot (like a lottttt) of apples, then you probably will have increased immune health and fewer doctor visits. But, just one a day will not keep the doctor away.
